Caggiano and Schwartz Elected to Commission (Amended)*

Of more than 35,000 registered voters in the City of Margate nearly 71% ( 25,250) cast ballots in the 2016 General Election. Voter turnout in Margate was better than average for Broward County and slightly under Florida's 74%. Caggiano swept all 16 voter precincts in the City while Schwartz took 14 of 16. The two will be sworn in for Seats 1 and 2 respectively at a Special Meeting Tuesday November 22nd* and serve in Margate office through 2020. Having started his campaign more than a year ago, Caggiano garnered 43% of the vote. He took all three types of voting methods (Early Voting, Vote by Mail and Election Day) and maintained a strong lead over opponents throughout the race. Caggiano currently serves on the City's Planning and Zoning Board and ran on a platform of fiscal accountability and smart development. He does not support plans presently in place for nearly 1000 apartments in Margate's new downtown area.

Schwartz served three terms as Margate City Commissioner in years 1991-94 and again in 1997-2004. The mom and retired Broward teacher won 14 of the City’s 16 voter precincts and like Caggiano doesn't favor downtown development plans currently in place. Schwartz told that her goal is to revitalize Margate and breathe new life into the City. She too maintained a healthy lead over opponents throughout the November election.
