Business Ambassadors Talk Shop at the Gem Eatery
August 02, 2014 / By Mitchell Pellecchia
Known for fresh, simply-prepared homemade specialties, Margate’s Gem Eatery hosted a pow-wow for business leaders that had mouths watering. ______________ Each month a group of business ambassadors from the Margate Chamber of Commerce pick a restaurant to talk shop. In July, ambassadors chose the Gem Eatery in the Chevy Chase Plaza located at the southwest corner of Margate Boulevard and State Road 7.
A public relations arm of the Chamber, ambassadors are volunteers who welcome chamber members at events and show new members the ropes of ribbon-cuttings and networking. In short, they introduce new members to one another and help them make business connections.
“People do business with people they know. Ambassadors can make a big difference in how a member feels about the organization and whether or not they attend events," said Board Ambassador, Anthony Caggiano. As lunch hit the table, talk turned tasty with a panko-encrusted pork chop sandwich (above $8.95) and a perfectly-pink inside blackened salmon (right $9.25). Between bites, the group talked of expanding the ambassador program by promoting benefits such as special recognitions at events and an Ambassador Spotlight to enhance publicity for an ambassador and his or her business.
All nine at the table agreed that chef/owners of the Gem, Anthony and Laurie DePaul, know their flavors. Homemade fettuccini and meatballs (below $8.99) was “absolutely delicious,” said Eric of Eric’s Pet Services, who chased the Italian favorite with a cannoli - homemade desserts, cakes and “the best brownies in town” a hallmark of the restaurant, said DePaul. Open nearly two years, the Gem Eatery boasts healthy and indulgent homestyle food. The DePauls don't blink twice at special orders and are well-versed in whole food, gluten-free and vegan preparations. Business is booming, said the Chef. And as the good word spreads dinner parties and special events are more common.
Asked to describe lunch in one word, ambassadors said “fresh, fulfilling, delicious, stellar, tasty, artisan, yummy, alive and ginormous.” To learn more about joining the Margate Chamber of Commerce or becoming an Ambassador, call Rebecca Case at 954-582-0399 or visit www.margatechamber.com The Gem Eatery 1043 N State Rd 7 954-971-7520 Hours: Tuesday - Saturday 9-9 Delivery 11-3 Daily (limited area)
