Voters Take Notice: Margate candidates on two ballots this year
June 25, 2014 / By Mitchell Pellecchia
Margate voters will go to the polls twice this year to cast ballots for Margate City Commissioner. Having met the June 20, 2014 qualifying date, a total six candidates will run for two City Commission seats - Seat 2 in August and Seat 3 in November. _______________ In a third attempt at getting elected to office, incumbent Commissioner, Brian Donahue, will defend Seat 2 in August against candidates Phil Hylander and Joyce Bryan . In November, Margate Mayor, Le Peerman, hopes to regain a second full term in office by defending Seat 3 against candidates Eddie DeCristofaro and Anthony Caggiano. After losing to Margate Commissioner, David McLean, in the November 2012 municipal election, Donahue was appointed his replacement when a disgraced McLean was removed from office amid federal allegations of bribery.*
Per state statue, an appointed commissioner must run in the next sanctioned SOE race, which for Donahue is the August 25, 2014 Primary. He faces seasoned opponents Bryan and Hylander, both defeated in past city commission elections. In Contrast, Peerman faces political newbies Caggiano and DeCristofaro. First runs for both at a city commission seat. The election for Seat 3 is November 4, 2014.
